Tip of the Week : Replication using DB Manager - Jose Garundo

Posted in [Manitou Maintenance], [Tips] By Brandon Lilly

How to Establish Replication using DB Manager.

This is a basic idea on how to establish replication using DB Manager, please refer to your Bold Technical Representative before performing this process if you are not familiar with replication or have any questions and require support.

Notes:   Always make sure replication is running properly before any failover procedure

It’s necessary to rip down replication if it’s not the first time you are configuring it on your servers, please refer to the technical documents, instructions or Bold Technical Support.

This process is simple and very user friendly, please see instructions bellow…

1-      Start DB Manager always present on your primary server (Usually Manitou1 server)

2-      Your DB Manager will display general configuration information on the left side of the window, you will see Manitou Icon which contains (Notifications, Watchdog, Status, Activity Log and Manitou server icons), here you will be able to see the current status of each item by clicking the icon.

3-      Right Click the Manitou server you intend to set as a primary server and select Make Primary, Ex. if you have 3 servers (Manitou1, Manitou2 & Manitou3) and you intend to make Manitou1 your primary server for replication select Manitou1 server. This will start replication configuration, you will see a window running the configuration jobs. (Watch if errors exist).

4-      Click Finish when configuration job is finished and wait for replication to start synchronizing, this might take several minutes or even hours depending on your site’s systems size.

5-      Monitor replication status and server status. Look for Publisher (P), Distributor (D) and Subscriber (S) all on green, this means that replication is complete and with no issues.
