64 Bit Operating environment

We recommend the use of 64-bit processors as well as the 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows Server

2008 and SQL Server 2008 for enhanced database performance. Currently, the Stealth Logger requires a 32-bit operating environment.

Microsoft Windows 7

In late 2009, Microsoft released it’s latest desktop operating system, Windows 7. As a Microsoft Certified Partner, Bold is committed to providing solutions that are compatible with the latest Microsoft products.

While initial testing has revealed no significant issues with this new environment, we are currently recommending that when ordering new workstations, you select the Windows 7 Professional operating system WITH downgrade rights to Windows XP Professional. This will ensure that you have the proper software regardless.

Microsoft SQL Express versus Microsoft SQL 2008 Standard

While Microsoft SQL Express is a cost effective solution and royalty free database, there are limitations that you should consider when choosing the database for your Manitou System. SQL Express has a maximum database size of 4 GB and will not allow for full replication. If you desire a larger database and/or you will utilize replication, it will be necessary to purchase Microsoft SQL 2008 Standard or Workgroup edition.

Please be aware that SQL 2008 Standard edition will not work on Windows XP or Vista, it require a Server operating system. Please contact your Bold Technologies representative for assistance in developing which configuration is best suited to your company’s goals and needs.

Serial Concentrators

Serial Concentrators are used to provide a greater number of serial ports on your FEP (Front End Processor).

They may be optional if you have enough serial ports on the FEP computer to connect all your receivers.

UL sites must have a dedicated Digi Etherlite for each machine running an FEP, plus a cold spare. Stealth Systems require a single dedicated Digi Etherlite and a cold spare.

Ethernet

A network switch/hub is required to connect to all devices. Any standard 10/100/1000 Base T Ethernet device is suitable. Manitou requires the assignment of static IP addresses on your internal network for all server class machines and Digis.
